The Right Foundation for Your Greenhouse
Choosing the right foundation is an important step in building a greenhouse. It not only affects the stability, but also the lifespan and possible uses of your new garden project. There are several proven options: strip foundations, point foundations, or foundation frames. Here we show you the most important differences – so you can make the best decision for your needs.
Strip Foundation – Stable and Durable
A strip foundation consists of concrete strips or, alternatively, permanently installed deep curbs that run under the load-bearing side walls of the greenhouse. It is firmly connected to the ground and provides a particularly stable base.
Advantages:
- Highest stability – ideal for windy locations or larger greenhouses.
- Durable – the foundation lasts for many years without losing its load-bearing capacity.
- Good protection against frost – with a frost-free foundation, the greenhouse remains well protected even in winter.
- Alternative to concrete – deep curbs offer a clean and stable solution with less effort.
Please note:
- Higher labor and costs due to excavation work, especially with concrete foundations.
- Fixed location – relocating the greenhouse later is hardly possible.
Point foundations – the simple alternative
If you are looking for a stable solution but do not want to pour a complete foundation, you can use point foundations at the corners of the greenhouse. These small concrete foundations ensure secure support and are a popular solution, especially when combined with a foundation frame.
Advantages:
- Faster and easier to set up than strip foundations.
- Lower costs, as less material and labor are required.
- Sufficiently stable for small to medium-sized greenhouses.
Foundation frame – flexible and uncomplicated
Our foundation frame completely encloses the greenhouse and anchors it securely in the ground. It is made of high-quality aluminum, making it completely rot-proof and easy to remove even after years without leaving any residue. The frame disappears seamlessly into the ground without leaving any annoying tripping edges.
Advantages:
- Quick and easy assembly – no concrete required (if desired: additional point foundations can be installed)
- Flexible – the greenhouse can be moved or relocated as needed.
- More cost-effective than a strip foundation.
Please note:
- On very soft ground, additional support, e.g., with point foundations, is necessary.
- Less suitable for very large or exposed greenhouses.
Our tip:
For smaller to medium-sized greenhouses or when flexibility is desired, the foundation frame – possibly combined with point foundations – is the ideal choice. We naturally have the right foundation frame for all our greenhouses.
