Frequently asked questions

Before buying a greenhouse:

1. plan sufficient time (approx. 1 – 2 days) and ideally 2-3 helpers

2. do not assemble and bury the foundation frame in advance The respective foundation frame profile is always connected directly to the corresponding component (e.g. front gable) The foundation frame profiles are shorter than the floor profiles

3. sort the profiles for the respective modules (e.g. front gable, roof, etc.) Basic information: Profiles for windows and doors are packed in a separate box (except Rhodo & Callas) and already bundled as a module (e.g. profiles for the roof window) Compare the cross-sections and dimensions of the profiles using a tape measure and the pictures in the instructions:

The following profiles have the same cross-section, but different lengths: Gable bottom profile – Side bottom profile Roof rung – Side rung Verge profile – Edge rung (corner profile) “Front and rear wall gable (left/right)” crossbar – “Middle rear wall gable” crossbar – “Below roof window” crossbar Special feature of the “Rhodo” model It is important to ensure that the curved edge/side rungs are inserted or pushed in the right way round. The four edge rungs must be inserted with the “slot” facing upwards The holes on the edge rungs are also at the top (on the inside) Ideally, align the side rungs with the already inserted edge rungs before inserting them so that the top/bottom can be identified

4. assemble “step by step” according to the instructions (example: rose | orchid | lily) skylight door top door bottom rear wall window rear wall gable front gable eaves sides (assembling the individual components)

Greenhouses offer many advantages, such as the ability to grow plants in a protected space, regardless of the weather conditions or the time of year. Greenhouses also offer greater control over the soil, humidity and temperature, making it easier to meet the needs of the plants. Other advantages include the ability to control pests and weeds and the possibility of growing a greater variety of plants than would be possible outdoors.

Various aspects should be considered when buying a greenhouse. Firstly, it is important to consider how exactly the greenhouse will actually be used. Is it used for growing fruit and vegetables or rather for overwintering potted plants? Or perhaps as a small, weather-independent oasis of well-being in your own garden? In all considerations, you should always pay attention to the high quality and workmanship of the construction and the correct – sophisticated – glazing technology. Ideally, you only buy a greenhouse once, so storms and snow should not harm the structure.

Depending on the federal state or the size you choose, it may well be that planning permission is required. We will be happy to help or explain the information you need and assist you with the application.

In any case, a sophisticated and stable aluminum construction in combination with the optimum glazing technology directly from the manufacturer. In addition, various coordinated equipment options, especially for glazing and accessories. For more than 15 years, KGT has stood for modern, sophisticated and aesthetic greenhouses that are individually planned and built according to your wishes. We attach particular importance to individual advice and the use of the best materials for every project.

There is a popular saying that the gable ends should be aligned on a north-south axis. This prevents the strong midday sun from hitting the larger side surfaces. However, in all considerations, a greenhouse needs the best possible light spectrum for plant growth. For this reason, there is no right or wrong orientation, as each property must be considered on its own merits. I always recommend a semi-shady spot in the garden.

In addition to the design, the glazing is a key factor for successful “gardening”. We generally recommend the use of ISO hollow chamber sheets made of polycarbonate or toughened safety glass for our greenhouses. With ISO twin-wall sheets, it is particularly important to ensure that the thickness of the sheets is suitable for the intended use and that they are UV-protected against premature weathering
Twin-wall sheets in themselves are ideal when it comes to gardening. For example, the cultivation and overwintering of plants. Toughened safety glass is always particularly suitable if the greenhouse is also to be used as an outdoor living space. The focus here is on an unrestricted view inwards or outwards.

Accessories:

Inside the black pressure cylinder is a mixture of oil and wax that reacts to heat and cold. The window regulator opens the window at approx. 15 / 16 degrees Celsius. The further the cylinder is screwed into the thread of the bracket, the sooner it opens the window. IMPORTANT: The pressure cylinder must be stored warm in winter, as the oil-wax mixture loses its function/reaction when it freezes!

The foundation frame must be assembled together with the house. All other accessories can also be retrofitted to the greenhouse without any problems.

Accessories such as tables, borders and plant trays expand the growing options in a greenhouse enormously. Ideally, these are designed to match the construction of the greenhouse. There are also practical helpers such as ring hooks, pipe hooks, hammerhead screws and much more. Proper shading is important for greenhouses with real glass. Excessive sunlight can cause major burn damage to the plants. To prevent this, you should hang up the appropriate shading blinds. However, this shading not only provides the necessary protection in summer, but also has a positive effect on the room temperature in winter as an additional heat screen. It is essential to position a suitable heat source in the greenhouse for overwintering. Please always remember: no greenhouse remains frost-free in winter without heating. Some plants need more light to overwinter than is often available. Special greenhouse lights, e.g. LED grow lights or sodium vapor lamps, are also required for the early cultivation of plants and sowing of seeds. Important: The lamps must be suitable for damp rooms.

All greenhouses must be anchored to the ground. There are various foundation options and our recommendation is to use a special aluminum foundation frame. This corrosion-resistant frame is placed in the ground and filled with soil. The connection gives the greenhouse a secure stand, even in strong storms. Alternatively, you can of course also create a classic concrete foundation or a foundation made of concrete slabs. It is important to remember that this type of foundation is only as good as the quality of the anchors and screws used. It should be noted that with this variant, poor quality fastening materials can quickly lead to storm damage.

After the greenhouse purchase:

The care of a greenhouse depends on the type of plants growing in it. However, there are a few basic things you should bear in mind. This includes regular watering, maintaining an appropriate humidity and temperature, controlling pests and diseases and cleaning the greenhouse regularly.

There are many types of plants that grow well in greenhouses. These include tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and salads, as well as herbs and aromatic plants such as basil, rosemary and thyme

When buying a greenhouse, it is essential to make sure you have the right greenhouse equipment. This is particularly important with regard to ventilation, as the various greenhouses differ greatly in this respect. Overheating or plant rot is a common problem in many greenhouses. Sufficient ventilation must be available. Roof windows, ideally with automatic window openers, split hinged doors and rear wall windows are best suited for this. If you keep this in mind, correct ventilation will be child’s play.

General tips and tricks:

  • Check the temperature in the greenhouse to make sure it is suitable for your plants.
  • Monitor the humidity in the greenhouse to prevent mold growth.
  • Pay attention to the type and amount of light your plants receive to ensure they grow properly.
  • Plan the planting of your greenhouse carefully to ensure that each plant has enough space.
  • Use appropriate fertilizers and watering techniques to ensure that your plants thrive.
  • Clean the greenhouse regularly to prevent mold growth and pest infestation.
  • Pay attention to the air circulation in the greenhouse to ensure that your plants receive sufficient oxygen.
  • Take the time of year into account when planning the use of your greenhouse to ensure that you grow the right plants at all times.
  • Only clean the greenhouse with water and, if necessary, a soft cloth. Use soapy water, never vinegar or acids. Acids could attack the UV coating.
